To imagine a perfect life after COVID is futile because agree or not the pandemic has changed all our lives and point of view like never before. Keeping our kids protected during such times is paramount.

But what is more than mere protection? Are we totally safe even if we follow all measures? Are we going to spend the next couple of months just taking preventive measures?

A part of the answer is YES! Prevention is better than cure. But for preventing and protecting, we need to ‘Accept’ the situation – no matter how bad it is.

Unfortunately, these times have made a time-based bifurcation in all our lives. Having a routine that was not affected by crowds or not requiring masks seems remote.

We cannot imagine how we went through our days before COVID. Like most situations that were considered ‘normal’ have been proven deadly today. 

It has almost been a year of the deadly virus dominating its reign over mankind. Mere prevention is not going to help. Bottom line – making peace until a medical remedy is discovered involves adapting oneself for the life after COVID.

Childhood Will Never Be The Same

I don’t think it was ever a surprise that our childhoods were better than our children’s. There was no such technological advancement. Our early days were not controlled by PlayStation controllers.

However, there was one little thing that still is mutual, even if less relatable – making friendships and playing in the front yard.

Individuals learn the art of socializing in their childhood. Other children within similar age groups or interests become an integral part of kids’ life and fore coming years.

Due to the virus outbreak, it was made compulsory for everyone to remain at home for avoiding the spread. Children in their peak age when physical activity is the most important, had to stay inside.

Children are continuously hearing about morbidity and mortality in this disease outbreak. This led Norway’s Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, to say, “It’s OK to be frightened” in a children-only media conference.

Many children have been unable to play or interact socially outside the home.  In particular, teenagers may distress when devoid of social stimulation, because peer interaction is crucial to their development. 

Many adolescents spend more time on the internet, enabling some to have socializing, but also raising the risk of abuse, intimidation, and increased promotional marketing. 

Those who have been disconnected from caregivers seem to be the most vulnerable children. 

This is the year of finding alternatives. We cannot predict how many more months or even years would it take to settle everything again. Moreover, we don’t even know what the after-effects of coronavirus.
